Historical plaques unveiled in the downtown

LETHBRIDGE- Six new plaque dedications have been made in the city.

The Lethbridge Historical Society, along with the City of Lethbridge, the “Heart of Our City” Committee and the Army, Navy and Air Force Veterans Club, has worked over the last year to get the latest buildings dedicated.

Owners of heritage buildings can also apply for municipal heritage designation, further insuring historical buildings in Lethbridge are restored and preserved for generations to come.

“By putting a plaque on it, it tells a story. It gives it some credibility as a building otherwise people might pass by it and not know it’s important, but they are important,” said Jean Johnstone, Co-Chair of the Plaques and Monuments Committee with the Lethbridge Historical Society.

There are now 46 plaques around the downtown core and 68 in total on buildings across the city.  The newest plaques can be seen at the following locations:

Canada Safeway, 312-6 Street S. (built in 1930)

The Lethbridge Daily Herald, 323-6 Street S. (built 1909)
Ott Block/Yale Block/Miro Bistro, 212-5 St. S. (built 1904)
Carson ( E.M.) Saddlery & Leather Goods Co. Ltd., 306-5 Street S. (built 1909)
Army, Navy & Air Force Veterans Association Unit No. 34, 517-5 Avenue S. (built 1928)
Greyhound Bus Depot, 411-5 Street S. (built 1939)
