West Kelowna minor hockey club wins chance to play with NHL superstar

KELOWNA — A West Kelowna minor hockey team got an end of season party they’ll never forget.

The Atomic Titans “under 10” players faced off for a game of ball hockey last night with Stanley Cup champion Drew Doughty.

“They’re pretty darn excited,” says the teams coach, Rick Speckman, “who wouldn’t be?”

The Titans won the McHockey contest, beating out teams from all across the country, all hoping for a chance to end their season with a
bit of stick play against the L.A. Kings defenseman.

The kids were teaming with questions for Doughty, like “How much does he practice?” and “How hard is it to get there?”

“If you love the game, practice is fun.” Doughty told them, “Just come from there. It’s not easy to make it, but have a lot of fun
and practice, and that’s the right way to go.”

Doughty says this was his first time in the Okanagan, and he’s always happy to give back to minor hockey.
