WINNIPEG – More than 100 community members as well as at least a dozen Winnipeg Police are armed with rakes and garbage bags along Selkirk Avenue as part of an annual initiative to “restore the core.”

They will spend Friday and part of Saturday cleaning up 110 blocks.

Chief Devon Clunis says it’s about taking pride in the neighbourhood.  “We all have a responsibility,” said Clunis.

The chief said he lived on Selkirk Avenue when his family moved from Jamaica 40 years ago and wants to help restore it to what it used to be.
