Baby Great Horned Owl rescued from Little Bobtail Lake fire

WATCH: Rescued baby owl Norman is introduced to her foster mother Casper

VANCOUVER – A baby Great Horned Owl has been rescued from the Little Bobtail Lake fire, which is still smouldering southwest of Prince George.

The female owl was found on May 26 by members of the Wildfire Management Branch and was driven down by Bandstra Trucking to the Orphaned Wildlife Rehabilitation Society (OWL) in Delta. Firefighters named her Norman because she was found on Norman Road.

Norman will spend time at the facility and will be fostered by Casper, a permanent resident who cannot be released due to her injuries. She has fostered many Great Horned Owl babies.

Norman is perfectly healthy and will be released when she is older.

The Little Bobtail Lake fire is now 100 per cent contained. It was the largest fire burning in B.C. so far this year and covered 25 square kilometres of forest. It prompted evacuation orders and alerts and hundreds of firefighters were brought in to fight the blaze.
