A man is in custody after a car driving erratically struck a police vehicle in Coquitlam Wednesday night.

According to Coquitlam RCMP Staff Sgt. Rob Lemon, an officer spotted a dangerous driver near Pipeline Road and Lincoln Avenue around 10 p.m. Police tried to pull the vehicle over and the suspect began driving even more erratically, turning the car’s lights off and driving backwards. The suspect collided with a police car and continued driving.

A police helicopter tracked the suspect until the car became disabled on its own around Coast Meridian Road.

The driver fled on foot until police caught up with him. He is now in police custody. No one was injured in the incident.

Police will likely recommend charges of dangerous driving and evading police. Other charges may also be recommended.
