REGINA – A Regina teenager is facing several charges after she was caught driving nearly 170 km/h on Ring Road.
On Wednesday morning at 12:15 a.m. police saw a vehicle driving at a high rate of speed eastbound on Gordon Road near James Hill Road. The vehicle then went south on the Lewvan, then east onto the Highway 1 bypass. There was also a second vehicle travelling ahead of the first.
Police were able to catch up to one of the vehicles – a Chevy Cavalier – and recorded their license plate information, but the other car accelerated away.
Once officers activated their emergency lights, the Cavalier also accelerated, travelling an estimated 160-170 km/h. Police stopped following the vehicle but it was spotted a few times later by other officers.
Officers spotted the vehicle going in the wrong direction on Ring Road and the vehicle almost hit a police cruiser.
The vehicle was eventually located near the 4800 block of Liberty Street and police arrested the 17-year-old driver.
The female youth cannot be named but is facing several charges including Evading Police and Dangerous Operation of a Motor Vehicle.
The teen made her first court appearance Wednesday morning.
