VERNON – No one was seriously hurt after a senior citizen failed to properly negotiate a turn at a downtown intersection in Vernon, slamming her vehicle into a building. The impact was significant with the car ending up completely inside the structure.
Police say the 74-year-old woman was attempting to turn from 31st Avenue onto 29th Street at around 10 a.m. when she took the corner too early and crashed into Abakhan and Associates, a debt restructuring business.
The woman was taken to hospital with what are believed to be minor injuries. There were several people in the building at the time. Police say one person was sitting fairly close to the window the car went through. Fortunately, no one inside was injured.
The driver was issued a violation ticket for an improper turn at an intersection.
