Fire in Hochelaga-Maisonneuve forces families from homes

MONTREAL – At least 10 families were forced to evacuate their homes after fire broke out early Monday morning in Hochelaga-Maisonneuve.

The fire started at around 3:30 a.m. in a back alley garage, behind a duplex on Desjardins Avenue, near Ontario Street.

Flames quickly spread to the roof, forcing the evacuation.

30 firefighters responded to the alarm and extinguished the flames.

No injuries were reported, but at least two families were left homeless by the blaze.

The cause of the fire is still unknown.
