TORONTO — A balmy Friday is set to give way to chilly temperatures overnight, prompting Environment Canada to issue a frost advisory for the GTA, as well as the rest of southern Ontario and parts of northern Ontario.
“Widespread frost is expected overnight,” reads the advisory. “Frost may destroy fruit crops, vegetables, and other plants.”
The weather agency recommends “taking preventative measures to protect frost-sensitive plants and trees.”
These advisories are issued during growing season when freezing weather conditions might lead to damage or destruction of plants and crops.
Areas close to the Great Lakes have a better chance of staving off the frosty conditions, where it’s expected to stay a few degrees above freezing.
