11-year-old boy allegedly involved in series of robberies

EDMONTON — Wetaskiwin RCMP have arrested two teenagers and an 11-year-old boy in connection with a series of robberies in the Ma-Me-O Beach area.

Trenton Okeymow, 18, has been charged with five counts of break and enter and one count of possession of property obtained by crime.

A 16-year-old boy has been charged with four counts of break and enter, one count of possession of property obtained by crime, and three counts of breaching previous conditions. His name can’t be released because he is a minor.

An 11-year-old boy was involved in the crimes, but he can’t be charged under Canadian law.

The RCMP has been investigating 10 break-ins and thefts in the Ma-Me-O Beach area since May 4th. The incidents include the theft of quads and motorcycles, break-ins to garages and homes where items have been stolen. Businesses have also dealt with break-ins.

On May 16th, police responded to break-ins at three homes. A search by RCMP resulted in a stolen quad being found in a ditch. It led police to finding two of the three individuals believed to be responsible.

Further investigation led police to find other stolen items and the arrest of the third accused.

The RCMP continues to investigate the break-ins and thefts.

Police warn these incidents are an ongoing problem in Ma-Me-O Beach area, which is along the south shore of Pigeon Lake. The area is about 80 kilometres southwest of Edmonton.
