Chilliwack RCMP say there were two separate instances of attempted child luring in the northeast section of the city in the last month.
The first happened on April 30 around 6 p.m., when an 11-year-old girl playing outside was approached by a man in a red van. The man, described as an older male with a long white beard and blue eyes, wearing black sweat pants, sleeved shirt and a toque, offered the girl candy.
“Fortunately the young girl did the right thing, and immediately ran away to a nearby friend’s home,” said spokesperson Corporal Mike Rail in a statement.
The second incident happened on May 17 around 3:30 p.m. There, a 12-year-old girl was approached by an older man in a white mini-van who offered her a ride.
The suspect in this situation is described as being around 50-years-old, with a skinny dark brown beard, a dark-reddish cowboy hat, and wearing a long sleeve black shirt.
The girl didn’t respond to the man and ran away.
“Again, we’re very pleased to report this girl made a good decision, and immediately left without talking to him further,” said Rail.
“Obviously we are very concerned about these events, but we are still investigating to determine if the two incidents are connected.”
Anyone with information on either of these incidents is asked to contact Chilliwack RCMP at 604-792-4611 or contact Crime Stoppers.
