Heartbreaking update: Baby Chloe has passed away

MONTREAL — Chloe Jade Byer was just eight months old and spent half of her life fighting a rare form of brain cancer at the Montreal Children’s Hospital.

Chloe passed away on Saturday, the same day a tribute concert was held in her honour at the Pionnier Pub in Pointe-Claire.

“We are totally devastated,” said Chloe’s father Robert Byer.

“I hope that seeing all the love in that room gave him a little bit of comfort,” said Mitch Kastner, a musician who helped organize the “Rocking for Chloe” concert that raised $4150 for the family.

“But all the money and love in the world couldn’t possibly ease the pain the Byers must be experiencing right now.”

Global News first covered Chloe’s story in March, when her parents set up a crowdfunding campaign to help cope with the financial burden of being at the hospital around the clock.

Chloe had been diagnosed with cancer in January and succumbed to a lung infection following her second round of chemotherapy.

Her story was shared on social media and the Byer family’s strength and courage has touched many people’s hearts.

A memorial service will be held on Friday.
