Police arrest pedophile for fourth time in 10 years

MONTREAL – Police have arrested Victor Dubé, 72, and charged him with possession and distribution of child pornography.

It’s his fourth arrest since 2005.

Officers arrested Dubé at his home in Rosemont on May 7 and seized his computer equipment.

They discovered thousands of photos and videos of child pornography.

“They had information from the public that this man had such materials,” said Manuel Couture with the Montreal police.

“They had a search warrant. They searched the house and they found such material so on May 8, he appeared in court.”

It’s not the first time Dubé has been charged with pedophilia.

He was arrested in 2005, 2010 and 2012 for similar crimes.

In 2010, he was accused of molesting a six-year-old boy.

The child’s mother contacted police April 12, 2010 to report her son had been sexually assaulted while she was having her computer fixed at his home two days earlier.

So, how was he still on the street?

“He’s been charged in the past but he was either acquitted or the charges didn’t proceed,” explained defence attorney Philip Schneider.

“Or he could have been accorded what we call an absolute discharge, which avoids a criminal record for one particular offence.”

However, this time because of his prior arrests, there may be enough to formally charge Dubé.

“If what he is alleged to be doing is almost identical to what those three previous things were, and those things themselves are identical, then the crown prosecutor can bring in those facts as proofs of similar facts,” he said.

This would establish a pattern.

“If you can establish a pattern that has almost a stamp of identity on it, then you can bring this evidence in to establish the deliberate intention to have this material and to distribute this material,” said Schneider.
