Too many pedal to the metal drivers on Highway 97

Highway 97. Global News

KELOWNA – The cops were looking for aggressive drivers on Highway 97 and they found lots of them.

Since March 1, the Kelowna RCMP Integrated Road Safety Unit has impounded 53 vehicles from drivers doing more than 40 kilometres over the speed limit between Kelowna and Vernon.

“Aggressive driving has become a major threat to the safety of motorists utilizing BC highways,” says Kelowna RCMP spokesperson Cpl. Joe Duncan in a news release. “The goal of targeting aggressive drivers is to reduce serious injury/fatality collisions along the Highway 97 corridor.”

The impounded vehicles are kept for at least a week and driver fines start at $368.

Duncan says the aggressive driving enforcement will continue this May long weekend.
