Tenants of Burnaby building must provide dog poop sample or face eviction

VANCOUVER – Tenants of a Burnaby apartment building are being asked by the property management company to provide a DNA sample – not for themselves, but for their dogs.

On Sunday, 30 tenants living in the Waldorf Manor Apartments on 14th Avenue, received a letter saying a tenant let their dog poop on the stairs, twice, and did not clean it up. Management then asked for a feces sample to be left on the tenants’ patios and they will test it. “As you realize, refusal is not an option,” reads the letter. “Rather admission of guilt, and reason for immediate eviction as the law is on our side.”

All 30 tenants own dogs. None are disagreeing with the fact that the tenant who allowed his dog to make a mess in the stairwell should be held responsible. But it is how the management company is dealing with the situation that has some tenants divided.

Some tenants tell Global News it is a privilege to live in a building where pets are allowed and management should do something to make sure owners clean up after their dogs.
