MONTREAL — Quebec Premier Philippe Couillard is defending a decision to drop a tax credit that benefited a TV production company owned by Julie Snyder.
She is the fiancée of Parti Québécois leadership candidate Pierre Karl Péladeau.
Couillard said the decision to strip Snyder’s access to the credit is aimed at creating a level playing field for all independent TV producers.
Snyder hinted she may take legal action to get the tax credit, saying her company’s survival is at risk because hundreds of thousands of dollars are at stake.
Snyder suggested Couilllard may be acting out of spite because she’s engaged to Péladeau, the perceived front-runner in the race for the PQ leadership.
Couillard denied that, saying he nixed the tax credit in order to make things equal for the independent TV production industry.
