A grudge in hockey is usually settled with after-the-whistle shoving or dropping the gloves – but the New York Rangers trolling of the Washington Capitals has crossed the line from physical to symbolic; the team’s twitter account has dropped all the capitals from its profile and tweets.

So no capitals while the Rangers play the team from the nation’s capital.

The team’s twitter account hasn’t officially acknowledged the team’s bout with writing rules but has stopped using capitals since April 27 when it was made clear the two teams would face each other in the second round of the playoffs.

The team’s name on Twitter has also changed to all lower-case letters.

Though the team hasn’t publicly acknowledged it, people have caught on and the hashtag #nocaps has taken off.

But, as clever as the trolling is, the Rangers weren’t the first ones to avoid caps. A Swedish New York Islanders fan used the hashtag on April 15 midway through the Islanders’ series with the Capitals.
