TORONTO – The province of Ontario will be investing $120 million into child care over the next three years. Minister of Education Liz Sandals made the announcement Wednesday.
The funds will go toward creating new preschool facilities. In all, roughly 4,000 new child care spaces should come from the investment.
“Funding will be dedicated to building safe, high quality, licensed child care spaces in schools across the province where there is significant demand,” the province stated in a release. “Schools boards in Ontario can apply now to the Ministry of Education for funding.”
Sandals said the province will create new daycare centres and build on existing facilities.
Sandals said the new facilities will begin opening in 2016.
