WINNIPEG — The Winnipeg Blue Bombers have cut ties with two veteran players.

The CFL club released defensive end Jason Vega and offensive lineman Steve Morley on Monday citing money as the reason.

“We have been very active throughout the off-season, through free agency and such,” said Bombers general manager Kyle Walters. “With that come decisions you must make in regards to the salary management system.”

Vega registered 17 sacks and 82 tackles in three years as a Bomber. The American left the club early in 2013 to play in the NFL but returned to Winnipeg the following season.

Morley has been with the Bombers since 2009. The Halifax born was selected first overall in the 2003 CFL Draft by the Calgary Stampeders.
