REGINA – An investigation has resulted in a $18,900 fine against Potzus Paving and Road Maintenance. The Yorkton company was charged for illegally dumping garbage without a permit.

The investigation was started by Saskatchewan conservation officers in July 2013 after they received a tip. Officers found a rock crushing crew, employed by the company, had buried their garbage north of Leoville, Sask.

The garbage pit, located 700 metres from a fish-bearing creek, contained used oil and batteries.

Potzus Paving and Road Maintenance was also ordered to pay around $65,000 to clean up the site and properly dispose of the garbage.
