Teacher credited with stopping shooting at Washington State high school

A staff member at a public school in Washington State is being credited with stopping what could have been a deadly situation Monday morning when a person holding a gun walked into the school.

The first reports of a shooting at North Thurston high school were tweeted shortly after 7:30 a.m local time.  The school district’s Twitter account reported roughly 20 minutes later that the shooter had been stopped.

The shooter reportedly walked into the school commons and shot in the air. A student on campus tweeted shortly after the shooting ended that Brady Olsen, a teacher at the school, tackled the shooter.

No one was hurt.

The unidentified shooter was taken into custody by police a short time later.

North Thurston high school is in Lacey, Washinigton about 10 kilometres west of the state capital, Olympia.
