Search resumes for man swept away at Peggy’s Cove

HALIFAX – Divers are heading back into the waters off Peggy’s Cove to search for a man who was swept away.

The search for the 25-year-old Ontario man had been on hold due to rough water conditions.

The man went missing Wednesday afternoon. RCMP said he had been walking with a woman on the rocks near the iconic lighthouse when a large wave pulled him into the water.

Police and firefighters received help from a Joint Rescue Co-ordination Centre helicopter and three Coast Guard boats but were unsuccessful in locating the man.

The victim’s name has not been released at the request of his family.

Peggy’s Cove is a small rural community located on the eastern short of St. Margaret’s Bay in Nova Scotia and is home to the iconic white and red Peggys Point Lighthouse.
