EDMONTON – A California woman who won a trip to Edmonton on The Price is Right this week will tour the picturesque Rocky Mountains during her visit to Alberta.

“We’re going to send you to an amazing place, Brenda, it’s a vacation to Canada,” The Price is Right announcer George Gray said as the prize was unveiled. “You and a guest will fly round-trip coach from Los Angeles to Edmonton, Alberta, Canada.”

Brenda Jo Philippe won a six-night stay at the Fairmont Hotel Macdonald on an episode of the game show that aired on Thursday. The Palmdale, Cali. resident successfully guessed the price of the trip – $7,519 – during a game of Squeeze Play.

The visuals that went with the prize were somewhat questionable, though. When the Edmonton trip was unveiled on the popular game show, a picture of the Rocky Mountains was shown on screen. That led to some interesting reaction on social media.

In a comment left on this story Saturday morning, Philippe said she declined the hotel stay in Edmonton, and instead opted to tour Banff, Jasper and Lake Louise in a rented RV.

“Fortunately, when you win on Price is Right, you can decline all, or portions of the prize,” Philippe wrote. “Sure I have to pay for it (except the airfare), but traveling to beautiful places is something my husband and I love.

“I am not disappointed that my once in a lifetime experience is bringing me to Edmonton…it is close enough to things that really do interest us. We are camping and hiking kind of people and I love the relaxation nature brings me.”

Philippe, an EMS dispatcher, also added she’s looking forward to exploring the Rockies.
