Lethbridge College convocation returns to Enmax Centre

LETHBRIDGE- Nearly 800 graduates of Lethbridge College walked across the stage and received certificates and diplomas Friday afternoon.

The ceremony was held at the Enmax Centre for the first time since the 1980s.

The college decided to move the event after it became too large to hold on site at the college’s gym.

Registrar Marko Hilgersom says several options were discussed, but in the end the Enmax was the best option.

“We could have gone to three convocation ceremonies at Lethbridge College, or what we could do is, go to a lottery system or ticket system, but then each convocate would only be allowed to being a couple of guests and we didn’t like those options,” he said.

The Enmax Centre made room for about 4,000 spectators to come and watch graduates cross the stage, and it was a full house.

Honorary Degree recipient Steve Mesaros was also honoured at Friday’s ceremony.

“His contribution to the community and his contribution to the college is great: $20,000 dollars worth of scholarships are handed out by him every year,” added Hilgersom.
