EDMONTON – An Alberta judge is expected to rule today on whether Omar Khadr can have bail.

The former Guantanamo Bay inmate is seeking release pending an appeal against a conviction for war crimes in the United States.

The Toronto-born Khadr, 28, is currently in prison in Innisfail, Alta.

He is serving out an eight-year sentence handed down by a U.S. military commission in 2010.

If the judge grants him bail, the two sides would still have to work out conditions of his release.

Either side could also appeal the bail decision.
