EDMONTON – Get ready to look to the skies this summer for a high-flying experience. An air show is returning to the Edmonton area.

The last aerobatic show was held at the Edmonton International Airport back in 2002.

Previously, air shows proved to be popular with tens of thousands attending events in 2002 and 1996. This time around, planes will be flying high from the Villeneuve Airport.

Some big names in aerobatics will be showing off their talents.

“Our pilots that we’re announcing today are in Discovery Channel’s air show. Dave Mathieson and Red Bull Air Race pilot Pete McLeod,” said Dean Heuman with RWE Events.

Spectators will see large scale remote control planes in action and hands on aviation displays on the ground.

The event is expected to attract thousands of people over two days.

“Villeneuve is the right airport for many reasons. It’s got a 5,000 foot runway, so we can use one for static displays. It has a lot of infrastructure already out there,” said Richard Skermer with the Alberta Aviation Museum Association.

The show will take flight August 22 and 23.
