Okanagan communities receive over $500,000 in climate action grants

OKANAGAN — Six communities in the Okanagan have received a total of $504,491 in grants from the province’s Climate Action Revenue Incentive Program.

The conditional grants are given to communities that are committed to reducing greenhouse gas emissions and have signed the Climate Action Charter.

“Earth Day is an opportunity to examine our individual impacts on the environment, and ways to improve,” says Premier Christy Clark, MLA for Westside-Kelowna in a news release.. “It’s also a time to recognize steps in the right direction, including local governments working with us to create a healthier, greener province.”

“I am a big supporter of the Climate Action Revenue Incentive Program and the role it plays helping communities achieve their climate action goals,” says Penticton MLA Dan Ashton. “These grants for Peachland, Summerland and Penticton will certainly help sustain this effort in our communities.”
