SILVER CREEK – A barn in Silver Creek, southwest of Salmon Arm, that housed a legal grow operation has been reduced to rubble. The Silver Creek Fire Department was called to the blaze after 9 p.m. Monday.
While the barn was destroyed, the flames didn’t spread and no people or animals were injured. The cause of the fire remains unknown.
“There is too much destruction there to really get a good indicator. It is quite a hazard. Since it sort of had a lower basement and it is all full of water, we can’t safely go in there and get down and look for an actual ignition sequence. So a lot of the cause looks to be undetermined,” says regional fire chief Kenn Mount. “I think it is highly possible that it has to do with the operation of the actual structure.”
The blaze also left two people renting an adjacent home without power.
