Candidate Profile: Ron Bain

The man many southern Albertans know as the brainchild behind Runners Soul is now trading in his sneakers and instead running for the Wildrose in the provincial election.

62-year-old Ron Bain says it’s time for a change.

“Since I have been semi -retired more and more what I see happen in our political system is troubling and disturbing and I think we need a change in our government, “says Bain. “After 44 years of the same government there has been a sense of entitlement.”

Before opening his footwear business, Bain worked for 10 years in the manufacturing sector, the last few years in human resources. Then in 1994, he had a vision.

Breaking news from Canada and around the world sent to your email, as it happens.

“I saw a need in the Lethbridge area for an actual running store. It took me a couple of months to decide and when I left my corporate job it took me a while and then we opened up with the first ever run I did, called the ‘Moonlight Run.””

Bain has been active in the community, organizing hundreds of events, offering scholarships, and sitting on many boards. He is past president of the Chamber of Commerce, was inducted into the Lethbridge Sports Hall of Fame and he was awarded the Alberta Centennial Medal.

“We need to do more for society and help them with a lending hand and do more to help them with their challenges.”

Bain is passionate about the environment and water protection issues. His latest expedition was to a remote area of the Amazon. He sys wants to bring his integrity and listening skills to the residents of Lethbridge West and help return to a sensible government.

“The difficult takes time – the impossible a little longer – so sometimes when you want changes to happen you have to have realistic changes and you have to go in with a goal .”
