A Mission man appeared in court today charged with killing a woman in an arson fire late last week.

Forty-two-year-old Walter Ramsey has been charged with one count of first degree murder, two counts of attempted murder and one count of arson.

It is alleged that Ramsey tied up his ex-girlfriend Eleanor Anthonysz and her two young children, then set her Mission-area trailer on fire.

The mobile home was allegedly torched early Friday morning.

A 12-year-old girl and 10-year-old boy managed to escape the blaze, but just barely. One witness reports the children’s hands were bound with zap-straps. They were taken to Mission Hospital where they have been treated for burns. The boy has been released from hospital, but the girl remains in hospital.

An online fundraising page has been created for Anthonysz’s two children and pub nights are in the works.
