The NHL fined Calgary Flames head coach Bob Hartley US$50,000 following his team’s brawl with the Vancouver Canucks during Game 2 of their NHL Western Conference quarterfinal.
According to the NHL, the fine “was issued in accordance with By-Law 17.3 (a) for conduct prejudicial to or against the welfare of the League.”
The brawl broke out in the Canucks zone with just over a minute left in the game, which Vancouver went on to win 4-1.
Calgary’s Matt Stajan and Vancouver’s Brad Richardson traded blows as did Deryk Engelland of the Flames and Vancouver’s Derek Dorsett. Canucks defenceman Dan Hamhuis also got involved.

The league also announced that the instigator penalty assessed to Engelland during Friday night’s melee has been rescinded.
Hartley was fined $25,000 following a line brawl between the two teams during a game early last year. Canucks coach John Tortorella was so angry after the incident he charged the Flames dressing room during the first intermission.
