VANCOUVER – Considering last year’s incident that proved to be the beginning of the end for John Tortorella in Vancouver, it can’t come as a total surprise that Game 2 of the Canuck-Flames playoff series ended in fisticuffs once the game was out of reach.
A line brawl broke out in the Canucks zone with just over a minute left in the game, which Vancouver went on to win 4-1.
Calgary’s Matt Stajan and Vancouver’s Brad Richardson traded blows as did Deryk Engelland of the Flames and Vancouver’s Derek Dorsett. Canucks defenceman Dan Hamhuis also got involved.
“It’s just them trying to generate momentum for the next game,” said Canucks defenceman Kevin Bieksa. “You’ve got to expect that from a couple of their guys.”
“I’m not sure what happened with the penalties, but hopefully we’ll see Mason Raymond next game,” added Bieksa, referring to the former Canuck who has yet to suit up for the Flames in the post-season.

There were some moments of chippiness prior to the brawl.
Canucks goaltender Eddie Lack came out swinging after Brandon Bollig fell on him in the crease during the second period. Calgary’s Dennis Wideman and Vancouver’ Yannick Weber both received 10-minute misconducts in the third.
“We knew they were going to try something,” said Henrik Sedin. “They’ve tried it before. I’m sure it’s going to happen again. That’s part of it. We move onto the next game.”‘
Comments
