Update: Stoll was charged June 21 with one felony count of possession of a controlled substance (cocaine). If convicted, he could face a penalty ranging from probation to a maximum of four years in prison. Stoll is scheduled to appear in court July 1.
TORONTO — Canadian hockey player Jarret Stoll was arrested Friday afternoon in Las Vegas on suspicion of being in possession of cocaine and MDMA.
The Saskatchewan native, whose season with the Los Angeles Kings ended last Saturday, was released from Clark County Detention Center late Friday on his own recognizance.
Stoll, 32, is accused of bringing drugs to a party at the Wet Republic Ultra Pool at the MGM Grand.
A police report alleges a pat-down of guests at the entrance to the venue revealed 3.3 grams of cocaine and 8.1 grams of MDMA (also known as Molly) in Stoll’s shorts.
According to the Las Vegas Sun, lawyer David Chesnoff urged people “not to prejudge the circumstances” of Stoll’s arrest.
The former Oilers centre is dating Dancing with the Stars co-host Erin Andrews.
Stoll had six goals and 11 assists in 73 games this season, his seventh with the Kings. He previously played five seasons in Edmonton.
In a statement, the L.A. Kings said: “We are aware of police reports out of Clark County, Nevada, regarding Jarret Stoll. Our organization is concerned and has begun conducting a thorough internal investigation. While we continue to actively gather facts, we are withholding further comment at this time.”
In July 2013, Stoll was hospitalized after suffering a seizure. The cause was never disclosed.
Stoll told the L.A. Times: “I don’t remember anything. My girlfriend Erin, it was scary for her, it wasn’t easy for her, she did a great job.”
