TORONTO – Police are seeking the public’s help locating a Stanley Cup ring stolen in a break-and-enter inside a Toronto home in March.
The coveted piece of jewelry belonged to former Toronto Maple Leafs player Philip Samis who helped the team win the cup in 1948.
Police say the family heirloom was taken following a break-and-enter at a residence in the Yonge St. and Deloraine Ave area on March 5.
A quantity of jewelry and property were also stolen by an unknown number of suspects.
Police are asking anyone with information about the ring or the investigation to come forward.
Samis was a defenceman who played a handful of regular season and playoff games for the Toronto Maple Leafs in the late 40s.
Most of his success came in the minors and as an amateur. He retired in 1953.
