Pregnant model with washboard abs gives birth to 8-pound baby

WATCH: (April 8) Lingerie model Sarah Stage continues to drum up controversy and criticism for images she’s been sharing of her super-toned pregnant body with a barely there baby bump.

TORONTO – A model who caused a stir online showing off her washboard abs while nearly nine months pregnant has given birth to a healthy, eight-pound baby.

Sarah Stage, the Los Angeles-based model, confirmed to E! News that she gave birth to an eight-pound, seven-ounce and 22-inch long baby boy.

She did that while sporting semi-washboard abs through her entire pregnancy.

She was criticized throughout her pregnancy for posting photos of her tiny baby bump to her 1.6 million followers on Instagram. Some of her followers said the muscular baby bump was “odd” or “super weird.”

But doctors, prior to her delivery, said the opposite, suggesting her toned physique didn’t necessarily mean she wasn’t a healthy pregnant woman.

“She’s obviously in excellent shape and her abdominal muscles might have remained so strong during her pregnancy that they simply mask her growing uterus from view. She could also have pelvic bones that provide a lot of room for the uterus to expand inward, rather than outward,” Dr. Alyssa Dweck, an ob-gyn, told Women’s Health magazine.

And the baby, according to E! News, is healthy, receiving an “eight or nine” out of 10 on the Appearance, Pulse, Grimace, Activity, Respiration (APGAR) test, which is used by midwives to judge the health of a newborn.
