WINNIPEG – Police chased a stolen vehicle halfway across the city – much of the distance after a spike belt deflated its tires – to catch two men who allegedly held up a St. Vital 7-Eleven.
The 7-Eleven at 438 St. Anne’s Road was locked when two men smashed a window to get in shortly before 3:30 a.m. Thursday, police said.
The clerk retreated into another room and locked the door while the men stole from the store.
They fled in a stolen vehicle as officers arrived at the store, police said.
A high-speed chase ensued. Police attempted to stop the men using a spike belt placed on St. Mary’s Road at St. Anne’s, and while the vehicle’s tires were punctured and deflated, the vehicle carried on.
Police continued the chase, finally catching up with the vehicle at Henderson Highway and Bowman Avenue in Elmwood, where they arrested two men.
