WATCH: Construction blasting has sent rocks raining down on a Victoria area suburb. Kylie Stanton introduces us to one family that has a boulder end up in their bed.
The homes on Colwood’s Pondside Terrace have gotten used to the falling boulders.
“It almost feels like a war zone with the blasting. Some of it has been pretty bad. The house shakes,” says one resident of the cul-de-sac.
For months, Tri-X-Excavating Ltd. have been blasting away on a hillside next to the street to create a new subdivision. A siren is rung whenever blasting is about to begin, but roofs and cars have been hit by the debris.
On Monday, the damage reached new heights.
“If I would have been having a nap, I probably would not be here,” said Darryl Olsen. A 17-pound rock smashed through his roof and eventually broke through his bedroom ceiling, leaving a trail of damage in its wake.
“It came down, hit the bed, deflected off the mattress. It had such impact it actually broke the bed frame,” said Olson.
Tri-X-Excavating wouldn’t talk about the incident over the phone, only telling Global News that it was “under investigation”.
