Firefighters battle two house fires in southwest Calgary

CALGARY – The Calgary Fire Department was called to a pair of house fires in the city’s southwest on Tuesday.

The first started at a two-storey home along West Cedar Place S.W. around 7 p.m.

When they arrived, firefighters found thick black smoke pouring from the second floor soffits.

Crews were able to extinguish the fire, which had developed on the second floor of the home.

The home was uninhabited at the time of the fire and no one was injured.

Officials say the house suffered significant fire and smoke damage and will be uninhabitable.

About two hours later, crews were called to a second fire at a two-storey duplex in the 3700 block of 45th Street S.W.

Flames could be seen in a second floor window.

Crews were able to get the fire under control through an exterior attack.

The home was under construction at the time and was also unoccupied.

No injuries were reported
