More than 3,000 tickets issued in first three weeks of Sask. photo radar

REGINA – SGI has released its first batch of results since beginning to issue photo radar tickets in March.

The photo speed enforcement pilot program was launched in February, but included a two-month grace period to help drivers adjust.

Between the period of March 8-31, a total of 3,078 tickets were issued for violations in locations throughout the province.

1,656 tickets were issued in high-speed locations (including Ring Road in Regina and Circle Drive in Saskatoon), and 1,422 tickets were issued in school zone locations.

In high-speed locations, speeding tickets start at $110 plus one dollar for every kilometre over the posted speed limit. In school zones, tickets start at $190 and go up two dollars for every kilometre over the limit.

A total of 1,029 tickets were issued in school zones in Regina. The highest rate of speed observed in a Regina school zone was 84 km/h.

404 tickets were issued to Ring Road speeders, and the highest speed observed was 170 km/h.
