Cause of fatal Saskatoon house fire determined

SASKATOON – Saskatoon fire investigators have determined the cause of a fatal house fire. Crews were called to 313 Witney Ave. N. on the morning of April 8 after a passerby noticed smoke coming from the house.

Firefighters located a body in the kitchen during a search of the home.

The fire was contained to the kitchen and dining room. Investigators said the fire started on the stove in the kitchen.

Family members were searching for their dog they believed ran away when the fire started. They confirmed today the dog did not make it and was found inside the home yesterday.

Damage is now estimated at $250,000. Original estimates had pegged damage at $150,000.
