TORONTO — Chris Hadfield, Canada’s most famous astronaut, announced Tuesday he is releasing his debut album this fall — and it’s the first ever to include guitar and vocal tracks recorded in space.
“The serenity and grace I felt while orbiting our Earth, weightless by the window, gave a whole new place to write and perform music,” Hadfield said in a release from Warner Music Canada.
“I’m delighted to be able to share these completed works as a new way to help tell the stories of early space exploration.”
The title of the album will be announced soon.
While aboard the International Space Station (ISS) for five months in 2013, Hadfield used his computer to record music he wrote both on his own and with his brother and his son.

Back on Earth, the recordings were enhanced with guest musicians and producer Robbie Lackritz (Feist, Bahamas).
Hadfield, 55, became a viral music star in 2013 when he posted a video for a cover version of David Bowie’s “Space Oddity” recorded on the ISS.
Last year, he and brother Dave released what they called “the most Canadian music video ever” — a song called “In Canada.”
