Police make arrests after reports of overnight gunfire targeting cars

Calgary police say charges are pending against two men in custody after they received several calls of gunshots being fired at cars in the city’s south-east.

Police say the first round of complaints for damaged vehicles came in just before midnight Sunday.

They were called after a dark-coloured truck was spotted in the communities of Temple and Monterey Park with its occupants randomly shooting at cars and homes.

No one was hurt but at least three vehicles were damaged during the shooting incident.

The police helicopter was called in to scour the neighbourhood for a truck believed to be the  vehicle being used in connection to the crime. Eventually,  uniformed officers picked up two suspects in the area of 16 Ave and 68 Street SE around 12:30 a.m.

A weapon was also seized from the vehicle.

At least one person had tweeted a similar sounding incident happening in the city’s north east.

Investigators say a long-barreled gun was found in the vehicle.  Shell casings were also found at one of the locations where a vehicle was damaged.

The investigation is ongoing.
