SASKATOON – The hottest day so far this year was reported on April 10 in Saskatoon as the city’s daytime high cracked into the 20s for the first time in 2015. The sizzling spring temperatures made Saskatoon not only one of the warmest sites in Saskatchewan, it was also among the hottest places in Canada Friday.
The heat has been ushered in by a ridge of high pressure centred over the province, which has also helped carve out clear skies and sunshine through the day.
The Bridge City will continue basking in the warmth for the first half of the weekend, but as the ridge shifts eastward, more unsettled weather moves in.
A cold front will slide through later in the day Saturday, bringing in cloud cover, a chance of showers and possible thundershowers and kicking up winds to sustained speeds near 40 km/h with gusts in excess of 60 km/h late afternoon into the evening hours.
Temperatures will also fall back to single digit values for the majority of the day with highs just barely cracking double digit daytime highs Sunday and Monday afternoons.
Good news is another ridge, albeit a weaker one, is set to build back in some heat once again next week, with afternoon temperatures bumping back up into the teens Tuesday.
A slightly cooler Wednesday and Thursday are possible with more cloud cover and possible precipitation, but current weather models are suggesting another warm up may be in store by the end of next week.
