REGINA – Regina police have issued a warning following the seizure of “Oxycontin 80” pills in the city, similar to those that have been identified as deadly fakes in other communities.
Investigators say “Oxycontin 80” pills aren’t readily available, which has lead to the suspicion they may be counterfeit, and the concern they may contain unknown, and potentially deadly, ingredients.
Earlier this week Moose Jaw police issued a similar warning after a 27-year-old man died after ingesting a similar pill.
The pills are described as convex-shaped, blue/green in colour, with “80” stamped on one side, and “CDN” on the other.
The pills are being tested to determine if they are indeed counterfeit. In many cases, these counterfeit pills contain Fentanyl, a powerful synthetic drug described as more potent than heroin.
In Saskatchewan, four deaths have already been linked to fake Oxycontin, with one other fatality still under investigation.
Anyone with information about the origin or distribution of these pill is asked to contact the Regina Police Service at 306-777-6500 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
