HALIFAX- A boy is facing numerous charges after an incident in Dartmouth Thursday night.
At 6:45 p.m., Halifax Regional Police responded to a break and enter in-progress in the 0-100 block of Earleton Avenue.
A 75-year-old woman was in her home when a 15-year-old boy known to her broke in through the rear door. He demanded cash and cigarette, and when she refused, he grabbed her phone, preventing her from calling police, and forcibly locked her in one of the bedrooms.
The boy finally let her out of the bedroom after she agreed to give him an undisclosed amount of cash and cigarettes. He left on foot and the victim was able to call police. The entire ordeal lasted over an hour.
This was not a random incident and the victim was not physically injured.
Officers, assisted by a K-9 unit, tracked the boy to a residence on Joffre Street where he was taken into custody without incident.
The 15-year-old boy was held in custody overnight. He will appear in Halifax Provincial Youth Court later today to face charges of break and enter, robbery, forcible confinement and breach of a previously imposed court order.
