TORONTO – The Toronto Transit Commission is about to sign a new deal to get the Spadina subway extension back on track.
Board members approved the hiring of a new company to manage the rest of the project which is behind schedule and over a hundred million dollars over budget.
Transit officials say a formal agreement with the new third-party company will be finalized in the coming days.
A few weeks ago, TTC CEO Andy Byford fired two managers in charge of the project originally scheduled for completion this year.

The project is currently $150 million over budget and at least two years behind schedule.
Last month, city council voted to fork over $90 million to cover a portion of the cost while York Region is expected to pick up the remaining $60 million.
The TTC’s new goal is to have the Spadina subway extension up and running by 2017.
