Winnipeg men face charges after ‘crime spree’ targets businesses

WINNIPEG – Police say they’ve stopped a crime spree that targeted small businesses, including a number of hair salons across the city.

Two men are each facing 23 counts of break, enter and theft after the smash-and-grab incidents over the last two weeks. The thieves made off with cash and merchandise.

The suspects were eventually cornered Wednesday at 3 a.m. when officers spotted “suspicious males” walking at Ness Avenue and Mount Royal Street. They got into a vehicle and sped away, with police in pursuit. The suspect vehicle crashed into some parked vehicles at Portage Avenue and Moorgate Street and two men were arrested after a short foot chase.

Trevor Kyle Klatt, 38, and Desalege Kebede, 50, remain behind bars Thursday.
