Cooking oil sparks Kelowna kitchen fire

KELOWNA — Kelowna Fire crews are crediting a home owner with a fire extinguisher with keeping damage from a kitchen fire to a minimum.

The fire happened at a single family residence on Bouvette Street (off Gordon Dr.) Wednesday night.

“When we arrived there were flames showing in the front window,” says acting fire chief, Corrie Lang.  “Crews knocked down the flames, so damage was contained to the kitchen.”

One resident was taken to hospital for smoke inhalation.

The fire was caused by cooking oil left on the stove.
