Call for public help to find stolen police rifle

Calgary police called for public help on Wednesday to find a patrol rifle stolen from an off-duty officer’s personal vehicle.

The patrol rifle was inside a locked, covered carrying case with two magazines containing 28 rounds each.

Police said the officer was inside a restaurant in the 0-100 block of Crowfoot Terrace northwest on Saturday evening when he returned to find his vehicle broken into, and the case was gone.

Calgary police said CCTV footage shows the suspect vehicle blocking a citizen’s vehicle leaving the parking lot.

Investigators believe the theft happened between 10:45 p.m. and 11 p.m. on Saturday.

They are still determining the make and model of the vehicles.
