CAPE BRETON- The National Parole Board has rejected an application for day parole from a man convicted in the slayings of three people at a McDonald’s restaurant in Cape Breton more than 20 years ago.

In its decision, the board says Derek Wood has not shown the commitment or ability to function in a less restrictive setting.
He has served more than 20 years in prison after being convicted on two counts of first-degree murder and other charges.
